Things you'll need

  • A plan for future proofing your work done during the funding years after funding has ended

This how-to summarises how you can apply for funding and signposts to relevant online resources.

1

Check that you are eligible to apply

Start with the basics. In Funding Central's very good short guide 10 questions to ask before applying there are some thoughts to help you start the process.

2

Use a fund finder

Once you're ready to look for funding there are many sources of help.

The Big Lottery Fund website offers a fund finder tool to identify the most suitable funding programme for your project.

Search for grants, contracts and loans on Funding Central. It offers a guided search if you are relatively new to fundraising.

3

Consider different streams of funding and income

The world of funding can get a bit confusing but you can learn a bit more about the key topics like income sources on NCVO website. Find out how other did it by reading the case studies for sustainable income.

4

Prepare your application

There are lots of sources of help to ensure you get your application as good as it can be. Try KnowHow's free Write a winning funding bid online course and How to write an application to a charitable trust.

How-tos are collaborative - we encourage other users to add to, edit and update existing how-tos as they see fit. Changes can also be undone. Don't worry, you can't 'break' anything!

If we see inappropriate or abusive behaviour we will prevent that user from making changes.
